System for Teaching and Assessment using a Computer algebra Kernel

Welcome to the official wiki for the STACK project. More about what we are trying to achieve can be found under The philosophy of STACK.

There is also a page for associated Publications, and some information about the details of the logo.

Students

STACK provides mathematical questions which you must answer. First you have to type in your answer using a simple linear syntax, details of which are given on the Answer input page. Then you submit your answer and it is assessed. STACK provides you with immediate formative feedback.

  • STACK establishes that your answer is valid.
  • Next it decides if you are correct, and assigns feedback.
  • Multiple attempts at a question are usually encouraged.
  • You will be given randomly generated questions, so you may be able to practice similar questions.

There is a page for frequently asked questions. You may also see all pages for Students.

Authoring questions

Those new to authoring questions should follow the Authoring quick start. There is also information on Answer tests, Author FAQ and Maxima.

See all pages for Authors.

Installation

Guidance is provided to help you set up your own STACK installation.

Community

This wiki is open to the global STACK community to organise and share knowledge.

Please feel free to contribute with edits (however minor) or new pages. You don't have to register but you get properly credited if you do.

There are also active discussions on our Moodle forums, and we have listed our development plans. If you install STACK please add a link to our list of users.

Development

If you want to track the development of STACK or report bugs then you should visit Sourceforge. A history of the project details significant changes and planned developments. STACK is accessed via the Opaque prototcol, and it is possible to convert some other question formats.
